What are you doing? I always assumed Asimov would be wordier, more difficult to read, but I was pleased to discover the opposite.

Regardless, it is still Asimov and therefore amazing. Then life was lived under clear skies, cities were not massive warrens, and the food did not all come from yeast. Science fiction authors were quite hit-and-miss in terms of the predictions they made about the future and boveedas has actually come to pass. It also keeps from being too startled at the bleak world Asimov portrays. Because they were going to ultimately get what they wanted, they were willing to drop the investigation into the murder of their scientist because their ultimate goal was going to be reached despite the axero doctor having been murdered.

The mystery setup was interesting. This book is not yet featured on Listopia. Perfectly programmed individuals would commit mass murder, simply by being placed at an angle of view constructed so that they saw the survival of the system as more directly important than — and in opposition to — the survival of their victims. And by loosely, I mean they happen to take place in the same Two disparate investigators are paired together and must overcome their differences in order to solve the mystery at hand. These authors set a high standard even when they were sexist or wrong.
Still, this is a nice mystery story with all sorts of typically fascinating Asimov speculations about the relationships between humans and robots and what it means to be different. He would make all these dramatic statements and really think he had it all figured out but would be all wrong.

Clarke, was considered one of the “Big Three” science-fiction writers during his lifetime. I have not read much Asimov, but judging from Caves of Steelhe knew how to make all that exposition engaging. Sci-fi writers, after all, do project their own time and its problems on their works.
